Press release by Russell Steele

Gerry and John shaking handsA COMMUNITY health charity which has raised around £50,000 in five years has launched its new youth section.

The Senit Foundation, which has helped buy lots of vital equipment for Inverclyde Royal, wants to extend its work to bring young people on board.

The group has appointed local man John McGovern to carry out the task and has arranged an open meeting to allow people to get more information about their plans.

Gerry Deeney, of Senit, said: “Throughout 2010 we plan to focus much of our attention on the youth of Inverclyde.

“We will be holding an open event where the young people of Inverclyde will be invited along to participate in a session with the aim of launching the youth initiative.

“Our intention is to promote youth supporting youth — with a particular emphasis on sufferers of short and long-term ill- nesses being included.

“The aim will be to encourage both the healthy and those who are suffering illness to work together and create an understanding of the needs and wishes of all the young people in the area.”

The new section Mr McGovern will run will also help raise funds for youth projects in the district.

He said: “The challenge for us is how best we can serve our younger commu- nity and generate funds for projects throughout the Inverclyde area. This is all about youth and what their plans are. The foundation will be there to support and help get ideas off the ground. Many people have great fundraising ideas or know of someone they would love to help. Now is your chance, so let’s hear your thoughts.”

The open evening will be held on Thursday 10 June at 7pm in the Tontine Hotel, Greenock.
